Rallying the classics in PuneMirror
The past will come alive on Pune’s roads this Sunday in a rally showcasing some of the city’s finest vintage motoring fare. From a 1934 Buick to a Triumph motorcycle built in 1911, owners of classic vehicles from Pune and Mumbai will be proudly showing off these graceful relics they have collected and cared for.
As president of the Vintage Classic Car Club of India Nitin Dossa, who is organizing the rally, said, “For people who own vintage cars and bikes (around 1,800 across India), this is a love affair, a passion for the past that overwhelms all else, even the spouse!”
Mirror spoke to a few other participants and found their enthusiasm just as high.

Participating cars: A 1963 Chevrolet Impala convertible, a Mercedes Sport 560 and four others yet to be decided
I own 38 vintage cars and am very particular about them. It is very important to find the right driver and learn the techniques of repairing these beauties. The Chevrolet Impala is the same one Indira Gandhi drove in as Prime Minister. The Indian government put it up for auction in 2000 when the new rule came into being that no minister or government employee should drive in an open car. I bought it from them then. The Mercedes Sport was earlier owned by John Travolta who sold it to a lady from LA. I bought it from her when she moved to Coimbatore around 12 to 13 years ago.
